Coastal Home with Leaking Skylights Now Has New Roof and Skylights
Challenge
This owner knew the roof was over 20 years old and wanted to see about replacing it. She also had some ongoing leaking around skylights.
Solution
Our Inspector met with the owner to see what she was experiencing, and then used a nifty program to take photos that gives exact measurements.
Our Inspector then got onto the roof to investigate its condition. The skylights were leaking because they were not installed correctly, and the roof was too old to protect this house!
This homeowner chose us to re-roof her home, the Klaus Roofing Way. The roofing crew started by removing the old shingles and the underlayment; they found a lot of rot! (see photos) It is difficult to see the true condition until all shingles and underlayment have been removed. Our crew replaced the rotting wood with new 3/4-inch plywood. They also removed the leaking skylights and properly replaced them with new skylights.
The next layer is the specific synthetic Klaus Roofing Way protective underlayment. The last three feet also has the “ice & water” barrier installed to protect against future leaks.
The roof was then re-shingled with high-quality IKO Dynasty shingles (see photo). The crew then cleaned up thoroughly, ensuring no nails were left!
