Leaking Skylight in Salem, OR Home Now Repaired
Challenge
The Salem, OR homeowner recently had folks cleaning off her roof, and they told her there was a soft spot near a skylight. This concerned her, so she did some research, found us on Home Advisor, and called for an appointment.
Solution
Our Inspector met with her to discuss what issues she was having. He then performed a thorough inspection of the roof to check for any other issues the roof cleaners might not have seen.
The skylight definitely had issues! The roof was dipping in at the lower edge of the skylight, indicating rot underneath (see BEFORE photo). A variety of issues cause problems with skylights, yet the main one is improper installation.
Our roofing repair technician found the wood underneath rotting out when he removed the roof shingles and the flashing (see DURING photo). It’s a good thing this homeowner chose to get this repaired now, as it would just get worse over time and be a bigger issue later.
The AFTER photo shows the repaired skylight, and the owner does not have to worry about a leaky skylight any more.
